An Odd Day

Today was Pongal, an optional holiday. The roads were deserted and we equaled the record time for reaching office: 0825hrs. The sky was overcast and everything look dull. As usual, I took the stairs instead of the lift since my cubicle is located on the 2nd floor. Halfway through, I make the mistake of touching the railing...and my hand sticks!

Yuck, there's fresh green paint and my indelibly incriminating imprints are now there for all to see...until the next round of coats! Now that the damage is done, a security personnel asks me to take the lift instead since the staircase was closed for maintenance. How prompt!

Dashed to the washroom on reaching my floor since my green hand didn't look too attractive. No water in the first basin. Water in the another basin but the soap dispenser was empty. Third time lucky. Vigorously rubbed my hands for 15 mins until the paint was gone.

Rest of the day was relatively eventless except that reaching home set a new record: 1900 hrs.

This is what Bertrand Russell said about religion...

Religion is based, I think, primarily and mainly upon fear. It is partly the terror of the unknown and partly, as I have said, the wish to feel that you have a kind of elder brother who will stand by you in all your troubles and disputes. ... A good world needs knowledge, kindliness, and courage; it does not need a regretful hankering after the past or a fettering of the free intelligence by the words uttered long ago by ignorant men.
