Landlords and tenants can never ever be friends and this is the way of life. I have learnt this lesson the hard way in Pune. No matter how friendly one side initially appears to be, animosity creeps into their relationship sooner or later.
It is best to be aware of this possibility and to keep your relationship purely professional from the start.

There are exceptions, Sam. My landlord in Pune & I were and still are great friends.

I remember you once telling me that your landlord/landlady in Pune had given their room on rent purely for altruistic reasons. The rules change when money comes in the picture, ehich is usually the case.

The year that was

I'm wearing a rather striking shirt, one that makes me feel like a clown fooling around in a graveyard. Roving eyes latch on to me and make me too conscious of myself. Checkered in red, grey, black and maroon, I've excused myself into donning it and looking silly for two reasons. It's Friday and…more importantly, the last working day of the year. It's been 10 years...

...since I last heard Willis Conover ! I managed to download a 2-minute live introduction to a jazz band by him today. It was divine hearing him after so many years. Old memories flooded my mind.
